2022 Recipients

Makhi Smith

The Ellsworth White Foundation would like to congratulate our second 2022 scholarship recipient, Makhi. Makhi is a graduate of Eastern High School and is now attending Wilberforce University. During his 9th grade year, Makhi started playing in the band. He continued to play in Eastern's Blue and White Marching Machine throughout his high-school time and gained various years of trumpet experience. Makhi believes that education is pivotal for everyone's success towards their respective departments of work. "School gives the keys to the many doors of opportunity for those willing to strive for excellence, which is why I am on the road of getting my doctorate in psychology to attain a business in what I love studying." He feels that this scholarship will help him along this journey. He understands that college is a financially demanding obstacle, which is one of the many reasons this scholarship would help him in meeting those demands.

The Ellsworth White Foundation is extremely humbled to be a small part of this young man's journey. Ellsworth was a lover of music but especially Jazz and even more a huge advocate and supporter of black businesses. He would tell every college student to make sure you take some business courses no matter what their major is. We are positive that Ellsworth is applauding and rooting loud from heaven.

Temitayo Adeola

The Ellsworth White Foundation would like to congratulate our first 2022 scholarship recipients, Temitayo. Temitayo is a 2022 graduate from Eastern Senior High School. He was the the valedictorian of his graduating class and now attending Columbia University, majoring in Business and Psychology. In addition to his many accomplishments, he was also the Alto Saxophone Section leader of Eastern's Blue and White Marching Machine. He also enjoyed participating in activism and social justice causes. Temitayo believes that higher education is important because it is an opportunity to explore his passion more deeply and venture into careers that he would typically not have access to. Temitayo will be the first in his family to attend a four-year college. Temitayo believes that education is a platform to change his life, both socially and economically. He believes being awarded this scholarship would help ease his worry about finances that will impede his chance of attending the college of my choice. "It will help me focus more on what is important, which is the College experience and gaining as much knowledge as possible."

Congratulations again Temitayo. The Ellsworth White Foundation is proud and honored to assist you on your academic journey.
